What should the port number be

Is this the right place to ask for help? I'm trying to use the Wordpress to Drupal tool but can't seem to pass the connection test.
I've got the IP address in there and have tried a couple of different ports. No connect.
Documentation here says get the port number from the hosting co., but I'm not sure what to ask them for. What sort of connection does the tool use?
For example, I use putty to do mysql dumps and such and that uses port 22 and SSH... but I don't know what the Importer uses... telnet? Don't know much about these things.
Any help appreciated.

Edit: details I forgot to mention. I'm going from wp 2.0.2 to drupal 5.12

3306 by default

You should be able to use the default port of 3306. If you still can't make a connection at least make sure that it is possible to remotely connect to a MySql database.

Firstly check Connect to MySql Database there's reference there to the 'port' number. After that check Logging into a Remote Database.

I'm half assuming that you can log in remotely since you can access the MySql database via putty. Remember, the password to input is that to the database itself (what you would use using putty to gain access). That password is stored in the wp_config file.

When you know you can establish a connection I'd suggest, if you can, upgrade your Wordpress to 2.6 and then convert. There's more options available during the import process.

I'm not sure of the precise connection type suffice to say that 3306 seems to always work.

Hope this helps.

Thanks... I may be able to

Thanks... I may be able to move fwd a bit w/the info you provided. The two nodes you linked to are broken links, though. When I get some time maybe I can search them out.
I can also contact my hosting co. and see if they have any clues as to why I can't connect to the db via the default port.

Could there also be firewall issues on my PC?

Links working

Sorry about the broken links.....they're now working.

I doubt it would be firewall issues but if you believe that is an issue, simply turn off the firewall and check.

Got it solved This page here

Got it solved
This page here was very helpful. Needed to ad my local ip address to the database access in my server control panel.
Now connects just fine.

Will probably upgrade my db to wp 2.6 and use that tool, now though... because I have a custom content type I want to import posts to.
